Opening of Reporting House Gallery “Who Killed the Painting” – Driton Hajredini

On March 14, 2025, Reporting House Gallery opened the exhibition of Driton Hajredini’s installation “Who Killed the Painting.” Created in 2003, this work critically reflects on the transformation of art and the position of traditional painting in the era of conceptual art. The installation symbolizes the “death of painting” and was very well received by the renowned curator Rene Block, who included it in his prestigious collection. For Hajredini, this piece marked his transition from being a devoted painter to exploring new artistic mediums, a change influenced largely by Block’s interest and the curiosity of foreign curators in post-war Kosovo’s contemporary art scene.

Reporting House Gallery is a new annex to Reporting House, dedicated to showcasing Kosovar conceptual art from the post-war period to the present. The gallery has planned a three-year program in which each artist will have the opportunity to exhibit their works for three months. This initiative aims to highlight the importance of conceptual art in Kosovo’s cultural development and to support emerging artists through workshops and artistic discussions. Hajredini’s installation launched this program, opening a profound dialogue about the challenges and shifts in contemporary Kosovar art and offering the public a chance to reflect on the role of art in society.
