On Saturday, the “Reporting House” held a public discussion with former OSCE ambassador William Walker. Walker spoke about the Račak massacre and what happened afterward. He said that after his mission ended, no one—not at the OSCE nor in the U.S.—asked him what had happened in Kosovo.
“When I left Kosovo, I went to Vienna to see the OSCE that had sent me here. I went to Washington. Not a single member of the OSCE headquarters, not one person at the State Department, at any level, asked me anything about my mission in Kosovo, so I felt that I was both right and wrong. It was very strange. There were no lessons learned regarding what I had experienced here. So my career went nowhere,” Walker said.
William Walker documented the horror he witnessed at the scene in Račak on January 15, 1999, in a book that tells the story of one of the bloodiest massacres from the last war in Kosovo. The event in Račak in January 1999 changed Kosovo’s history forever.
