Goran Tomašević

Goran Tomašević is a Serbian photojournalist with an international career, best known for his photographic documentation of wars and armed conflicts. He has worked for Reuters and has covered conflicts in the Balkans and in other parts of the world.

During the Kosovo war in 1999, Tomašević was among the photographers who documented developments on the ground at close range. The Reuters archive contains a number of his photographs from Kosovo, including images of bombings, destruction, and population movements. A photograph he took in Korishë on the 14th of May 1999 documents the aftermath of a bombing, while other photographs from Merdare and Podujeva provide visual testimony to events from that period.

Tomašević’s work forms part of the tradition of war photojournalism, in which photographers often operate in dangerous conditions in order to document events as they unfold. Today, his photographs from Kosovo constitute important visual evidence of the 1999 war.
