On this day, for the first time, a man, Ramadan Nishori, publicly shared his experience of sexual violence inflicted by Serbian forces during the 1998-1999 conflict. The campaign aims to extend the deadline for applying for recognition as a victim of war-related sexual violence, which the Kosovo government has extended by two years, until May 15, 2027.

Jeta Xharra, Director of BIRN Kosovo, emphasized that this extension is the result of cooperation among survivors, women’s organizations, and international partners, including the British Embassy. Feride Rushiti, director of the Kosovo Center for Rehabilitation of Torture Victims, highlighted the importance of April 14 as a memorial day for all survivors. Vasfije Krasniqi, the first woman to publicly share her trauma, called for the application deadline to be made permanent, stressing that war crimes do not expire.

Other survivors, including Shyhrete Tahiri-Sylejmani, also took part in the panel discussion. According to officials, around 20,000 cases of sexual violence occurred during the war, and from February 2018 to June 2024, over 2,000 people have applied for victim status recognition.
