Serbian photographer Goran Tomasevic, known for his coverage of the Kosovo war in the 1990s and his later work for Reuters, held a discussion at Reporting House on September 23, 2024. He spoke about his experiences documenting the war and difficult situations, such as the bombing of Dubrava Prison, where he witnessed about 100 of its victims and the significant damage it caused. Tomasevic emphasized that he did not see the killings inside the prison, only those after the bombings, and he was unsure who was responsible.
He also talked about his presence at other bombed sites, such as the Mental Health Institute in Shtime, and stressed the importance of photography during war, stating that “photography is more important than history.” Tomasevic has covered major conflicts worldwide, including Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria, and has received important international awards, including the Pulitzer Prize.
He has over 30 years of experience in conflict and global event photography and was the only photographer working in Kosovo for the international press during the war.
