Medicine in ‘Impossible’ Conditions: Challenges, Experiences, and Sacrifices”

On December 5, 2025, a discussion titled “Medicine in ‘Impossible’ Conditions: Challenges, Experiences, and Sacrifices” was held at Reporting House, dedicated to medical professionals who served under extreme conditions before and during the last war in Kosovo.

The panel featured: Dr. Salih Krasniqi – laparoscopic surgeon, Dr. Feride Deliu – pediatrician, Dr. Skender Murati – general and abdominal surgeon, Dr. Xheladin Reçica – thoracic surgeon, and Dr. Cen Bytyqi – orthopedic traumatologist.

The panelists shared their experiences from the 1990s: difficult working conditions at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (QKUK) and relations with Serbian staff; the parallel and underground healthcare system; field services and improvised hospitals; dangerous travel to conflict zones; shortages of medication; care for the wounded; and coordination with local units. They also recalled the loss of colleagues, including Dr. Shpëtim Robaj, and emphasized the role of doctors in saving lives amid the constant threat of war.
